How can I improve my 400m dash time by Tuesday (4days)?

I started off this season running a 75 and I’ve been averaging a 72 at each of my meets. Yesterday I ran a 71, and for my conference meet on Tuesday I’d like to run a 69 at least. What can I do to improve, what should I eat and how should I practice?

I take it your a middle school girl or a young middle school guy. Four days isn’t too much time to make huge improvements but with correct workouts you can shave a couple seconds off your time. Run 150s and 250s about 4 of each. If you decide to do this workout start with the 250s at race pace. Then run the 150s harder than race pace and bust the last one wide open. You need to train your body to eat up the pain at the end of the race and running when your tired helps with that. Stretch out good and bust the whole 400m wide open. Don’t start too strong because you will wear out but stay in striking distance the whole way (behind the leader less than 5m). And remember that last 100m goes to who ever wants it the most. What is 17 seconds in your case of pain.
